Friendship and Discipleship for Men

I was reading Nate's book again and came to the section where he talks about journaling.
Was just wondering who all does this and if you really think it is helpful?

i do it once and a while but i do know that i should do it all the time. each time you read the bible you find tons of new things but its so hard to keep it all in your head. a journal also allows your to keep track of your progress spiritually. but im not an expert i attempt to keep one but i only end up useing it when im frusterated or upset.
any how thats my view God bless brother

It's been a while since I read the book, so I don't remember exactly what Nate says about journaling. I can tell you that journaling is very helpful for me especially when paired with my time in the Word. It helps to anchor what I've just read in my mind and heart. I've recently started a new reading/journaling/prayer devotion each day, and thus far it is a blessing. For a very practical guide to journaling on your time in the word check out, The Divine Mentor by Wayne Cordeiro. The book itself is ok, but the model and idea that he suggests for daily devotions is simple and practical yet extremely helpful. Blessings

I had tried to journal in the past and it didnt work, because as Nate was saying in the book I was writing for publication. I took the advice of writing for 20 minutes and journaling as been easy since then. I think that it helps immensly to keep my thoughts on the paper and it also helps to reflect on where I have been and where I am going.

Its been a great source of inspiration for me as I look back at what Jesus is accomplishing in me. I started in in preparation for a trip to the Wild at Heart Boot Camp in Colorado and it was such an integral part of that weekend that I just kept it up. I started blogging too which is more about what I am learning in the Word vs the true undercurrent of my heart which I save for my personal journal. Either way...it shouldnt be a yoke around your neck...if it is, you'll just come to resent it.
