Friendship and Discipleship for Men

I need to know the name of the online program that a bunch'a you have done, regarding getting help with porn addiction. I feel this would solidify my healing, but when I FINALLY went to look it up, I can't remember for the LIFE OF ME what it's called. I hope you know what I'm talking about: I think it's like a daily or weekly program, and I believe someone said they even had a community like the S.S. where you could speak to the other guys. It's a free program, and is completely online, and several guys here said they've went through it. I thought I could find the name of it in an old forum post, but can't find it ANYWHERE. I thought it might be good for me and my buddy Joe Patterson (the "newbie" who sent a post with that in the subject line a few days ago) to go through together. We're both in the healing process from junk like this.

Anyway, I need your help! Thanks...

I use K9, but there's several of them out there.
Rob,

I think you might be talking about setting captives free.

Yes, I think it's the "Setting Captives Free" thing. Thank you, Rich.

Adam, I'm not sure what "K9" is but I'll check it out, thanks.
I use X3watch...

There is a paid and a free version.
i would suggest this if other filters are keeping you out of pages you need to be on. this is not so much a filter as a monitoring device that will provide your brothers with a list of questionable pages that you have been on. it helps keep us accountable.
I am on day 8 of that course. I have to say that it has changed me and my perception on how to deal with this problem radically. Go for it man. You won't regret it.
Phil
Thanks, Phillip and Chip. I've never heard of "X3watch," but I'll check it out.
I just finished Day 27 on Setting Captives Free, a 60-day course. I highly recommend it. X3 and K9 are both (I think) on-line monitors that watch where you go on the Web. I am personally using Safe Eyes and my mentor on SCF is my monitor, too.

I will tell all of you that haven't thought of, or started a course like this that I have discovered a new life through this course, after fighting this porn addiction for close to 50 years. The course is free, and all you have to do is commit to 60 days of study. Do it now!

Gary, the only problem, or QUESTION I have, perhaps, is regarding getting an online filter. Joe Patterson (fellow Samsonite) and I are involved in comic book ministry, and the filter I used before blocked me out of some comic book sites I needed to get into. I'd like to get one, for me as well as my family, but I don't know how it would work. If I wanted to get onto a comic publisher's website, for example, and there was an art piece that's considered "questionable," would it block it out?

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'm looking forward to doing the Setting Captives Free program.
Hey Rob,
Most filters also have reporting devices on them, this is a great opportunity to have your Silas or other Samson brother check the activity on your site. No filter is 100percent, and all of them block things that frustrate at times. So that's why they allow for you to unblock certain sites. Thus the danger of disabling the wrong sites.

That's why online reporting to a trusted brother is a complement to this feature if you choose to have a filter - even if you don't have a filter, it's a good idea to give access to a full internet usage report to another brother who will be able to ask you what's going on. In my view it's the best deterrent to going over to the dark side... so to speak.
Ok, that makes sense. Thanks.

I mostly piddle around on computers until I figure out what I'm doing. I'm far from an expert, although fellow S.S. member Joe Patterson-who is my accountability partner, as well as a co-worker, ministry partner and great friend-DOES no quite a bit about them. How do I go about setting up this filter that can report to a buddy?

If it's going to be quite extensive, you can email me at: robweddle1@hotmail.com. Thanks!
I'll be more than happy to walk you thorugh the set-up if you go with Safe Eyes. There is only one caveat - it is a $50 program, and although you have a nice, fully-functional trial period, the software asks you continually if you want to upgrade to the full version until you either sign up or uninstall it.

It's worth the money, anyway. Install it, try it, and I'll help you if you need further instructions. I am sure there are others up here who can also help you.
