not having to wear a mask anymore. 4 Replies

I feel for the first time that i am starting to feel free from the dark pain within myself. I reilize that Jesus did finish the work that needed to be done for my sake and i am a child of God.

How true that has been in my life. Every time it seems that God wants to affirm His love for me, I need to do something to 'prove' how unworthy I am. That keeps me from having to respond the Him or to others in my life who are trying to love me.
It becomes a way of ducking the responsibility of having to participate in the relationship because I am so 'unworthy'. What a crock!! I am trying to respond in a more positive way. Tough after all these years.

Inability to simlpy accept God's love is true but also to accept ourselves as God accepts us issome times even harder.

You are so right. Caught a little of Jack Nicholson the other night in Somethings Gotta Give and apparently he had a heart attack and it changed his life and he let his inner emotional side come to the surface. Not endorsing his behavior but it did show that so many men have learned to 'hide' inside a 'performance' box, doing whatever to complete the checkboxes of manhood and ignoring who God has so lovingly designed them to be. It must be very liberating to finally just surrender all that stuff and be yourself, accept the love God bestows on us and begin to reflect that love out to others. So long as we remain focused on ourselves we stay enslaved to repeating the 'learned behaviors'. It has been a startling and somewhat unsettling adventure for me as I continue to walk into recovery and discover in large measure that my addiction is not the root of the problem, inability to simply accept God's love and invitation to walk WITH Him instead of trying 'do' for Him is really at the core. Learning to shed the mask is a real step in the process. Thanks for your insight.

The mask (hidden persona) is something we face (no pun intended) internally that prevents us from being honest within ourselves and free with others about who we are in Christ. However we are children of God and He shows us how to shed the hidden innerself and live the way He planned us to live.

Hey Lawrence,
I am sure this will start something. I will be adding something this weekend as soon as I get some time.

Greetings Brothers,

Though it's been a long day and I just got home, I am thankful that the Lord has been with me today. I find that everyday is a challenge but I'm trusting that by my obedience and faithfulness the Lord will give me His strength and guidance. I look forward to our next meeting on the 27th of June. See ya there.
Warm regards,
Jeff

i just got a good kick up side of the head. Sent a 'regular' email to one of our members and got a reply to please send anything that had to do with the Samson experience only through the Samson webmail. Inadvertent distress can result from a breach of this meeting etiquette. My apologies and hopefully it will remind us to avoid this in the future.
