We talked of "remembering" yesterday in church. From 1 Thes. 2:9-12. How Paul had just been with these guys for a few weeks and then moved on and how he was reminding them of the truth of the gospel as they began to believe and become a new church and a new family together.

A friend came over last night to watch the Super Bowl with us. We had a good time and when he left he said- thanks for creating a safe place for me.

It made me realize that we are not safe in this world and don't always feel safe when telling the truth about ourselves or even just relaxing and being ourselves. The evil one is willing to go to great lengths to destroy us and just when we start to trust--he may come in for the kill. Sounds dramatic but betrayal is not fun

Had our meeting tonite and I shared about what this past year has been like for me. I was reflecting on that because today is the 1 year anniversary of the death of a good friend of mine. His name is Joe. When I think of him I smile. He was very good to me. In fact I think he was the first person that ever listened to me. Two of us in our group have been talking about our identity as a group in the church. We meet in our church basement and are kinda undercover as far as being announced or listed in the weekly activites. We do let the mens group know who we are and that we are meeting next (after our mens group meets) just down the hall. Not many random takers yet but God has given us a great core group of about 10 guys.

Our suggested topic for sharing at our meeting Monday was weakness. Our newest member chose it and it was a bullseye. I don't like thinking of myself as being weak. It is an ugly word to me. I want to be strong, afterall, I am made in the image of God, and he made me to be strong. He also created me to be dependent on him(not independent from him) Here seems to be the difficulty. How do we, as men, show our strength and yet submit to God?
