Triumph over Temptation

James 1:13-14
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.

life would be so much easier without temptation. Talk abou… Continue

Does God Have Ears?

1 John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
I know I’m not the only one who wonders if God hears our prayers. Not only hears them, but is attentive to our immediate need. Doesn’t it sometimes feel like God has taken a vacation from prayer answering? Who could blame him if he did? I’ve noticed something about myself lat… Continue

THE FEAR FACTOR

From the beginning of man’s creation, our enemy, the devil has been using fear to spiritually and physically paralyze anyone who would seek to do God’s will. Some things should be noted before we get into this discussion.

The Devil is a liar
Fear works contrary to faith
The Truth will always set you free

Just like everything else, fear has an origin. It came from somewhere. Did God create it? Hosnestly, I don’t want to get into a philosophical discussion about whether God created fear or not.… Continue

Paul's 7 Points of Prayer

There are many books and manuals that describe what prayer is and what kind of prayers work or don’t work. It’s a good thing to desire a better prayer life. It’s the power source for the Christian. It’s where we plug in and connect to our God. It’s where His Spirit moves in us supernaturally to intercede for the lost, hurting, ailing, or broken. We find comfort in prayer as we lay out our requests before a God who cares and answers. We continue to pray even when we don’t see an answer, not becau… Continue

Destiny's Persuit

love animated films like Ice Age, Horton Hears a Who, Bolt, and possibly my new favorite Kung Fu Panda. It’s such a great picture of destiny’s relentless persuit of those who have been chosen to fulfill it. One of the things I love most about Kung Fu Panda is the ancient Kung Fu Master Oogway (the turtle). I really dig him because of his wise sayings. I’d like to share one with you that reminded me of the fact that God will have His way with us even when we try to run from His intended destiny f… Continue

Hey Mag. Yes, I got the book. It's right here on my desk, but I've been so slammed lately that I haven't been able to do any more than look at the first couple of paragraphs. I promise I'll send you my impressions as soon as I've had a chance to take a good look at it. Thanks for trusting me with your work.

Sometimes I run right to you
Sometimes I run away
Sometimes I run in circles
And I waste another day

Sometimes I walk behind you
Sometimes I walk ahead
Sometimes I walk with blinders
But I never hear you say...,"Find your own way home."

Hey Mag.

Yeah, we do get unbelievers in the meetings sometimes, and we go out of our way to make them feel welcome. Still, as our meeting format says, "we are a company of Christian men." Unsaved guys either become Christians and stay, or they fairly quickly drift away.

Hey Magf:

Thanks so much for your note. It's not easy for a pastor to be transparent -- I never was while I was in the ministry. I have several pastor brothers in the Samson Society, though, who have found a safe place to be completely and consistently honest. Some of them attend Samson meetings in a church other than their own. Others have formed closed Samson meetings "off the map" for pastors only. I hope you find a good solution soon. It's a matter of life and death.
