Samson Society

Friendship and Discipleship for Men

SteveB

TeleMeetings

SS brothers,

my wife for a good while now has had weekly phone prayer time with a Christian friend of hers. so i'm thinking, if a geographical SS meeting is not available, why not a telephone meeting - reading the SS charter and meeting format, etc? also, in addition to weekly meetings, what about calling together unscheduled meetings of either or any type, as needed or desired?

after all, "wherever two or more of you are gathered..." - it only takes two, right?

what say you?

best to all, in Christ,

Steve B

I think because this movement, and it is a movement, is in its early stages, I think that this is the way to go to reach men who are not geographically able to meet with a regular group. It allows us to still be in relationship with one another and still get the format across. That is until the group expands and is able to meet. I don't think that this is the entire solution, but a great start to get an SS meeting going.

Guys,
If you check out pirates on the path and pirates with absent fathers, you will see we have already done this via free conference call.com and it has worked pretty good. Tuesday and wednesday night this last week we had meetings, and we are planning on doing our weekly samson meetings this way.

For our after meeting last week I stayed on the phone with one other guy and we had a great conversation that went pretty deep into my own story. I highly recommend it and am willing to help you get started if you need to.

hi Upstate, i just discovered and read through the earlier SS discussion "Physical Meetings versus Online/Starting a Meeting or Being a Possible Contact" for which my discussion here was related. i am posting it here as more reference to the stuff we've been discussing in common but mostly as a recommendation to anyone who reads this. imho, Tony's initial writing in the "Physical Meetings..." discussion is a must read for all SS brothers. thanx and God bless to all, Steve B

all good comments. many thanks, SS bros.

Scotticus - your changes are excellent! strength and honor, in Christ!

Upstate: i saw in your prior discussions a lot of discussion on chatrooms. the 2 meetings/groups you proffer re: conferencecall.com are by invitation - which i guess is required to view that info as you mentioned? in any case - excellent, again!

so the free alternative options are local calls, nights and weekends or same carrier mobile to mobile. and the conferencecall.com option. it should be easy for us all to determine our own working parameters and preferences. time zones could be a factor, too.

anyway, i'm glad we are all thinking creative for nongeographic meetings as a substitute for unavailable geographic meetings. and as supplement, too.

more ideas: any others, brothers?

Why not grab up another man or two and go somewhere and talk? Is no one in your area willing to have dinner, maybe share a lil. It is a start, it is tilling the soil to plant that seed.

Eye to eye honesty is a corner stone to growth.

thanks Jason for mentioning this item, too. seems we all agree face-to-face is best, so we can sure add it to the list.

to summarize our options so far by optimal degree, as i see it, we have:

1. fixed geographic location meetings
2. temporary/variable/mobile geographic meetings
3. conference/telephone meetings
4. pc/website/chat meetings...

and

50. skywriting...

and finally,

100. smoke signals [haha...just kiddin' on these last two. sorry guys, it's Tony Hamilton's fault: he's rubbing off on me].

so, in addition to any type of meeting which is regularly scheduled, we can have interim/spontaneous/special meetings if needed or desired. (hat tip to Scotticus Maximus for some modest inspiration here)

now we're gettin' somewhere. more ideas, any brothers?

Yes, Steve... you are in trouble if I'm impacting you, lol. You forgot the African drum method of communicating... my favourite.
